No Good Title

I've things to write about that I just haven't gotten to.  Mrs. G completed yet another training class last weekend for instance.  Unfortunately the event that happened today is going to take some time to process first.  I saw a guy die today.  Witnessed a head on collision.  For some reason I have seen a lot of accidents.  This is the first one where someone died.  I guess I really did more than just witness it.  A bunch of people stopped right away but I ended up checking people out, talking to 911 and OnStar, passing info, giving updates and orders, contacting the surviving drivers significant other.  Yep, I was hip deep in the whole thing from start to near finish.  The dead guy was a young man, I'd guess 16-25 years old or there abouts.  I must have gotten to him within 2 minutes.  He was unresponsive, limp, hanging in his seat as the car was on it's side.  I could only reach his arm.  I tried to get his attention.  I couldn't so I went back to corralling the scene.  Another guy with EMT training checked for a pulse but found none.

I guess I was the only witness that either actually saw the crash or bothered to stick around so I had to write up a statement and then wait for the detective.  By the time I left the adrenalin was wearing off and I realized I had watched a young man die.  I'm currently in the stunned state.  Death is hard to process.  That's about all I can write at the moment.

Here's the story.  In one areal shot you can see my red pickup truck on the side of the highway.

  1. I'm sorry.

My stepdad calls me a shit magnet, because car accidents used to happen in front of me all the time. I've stopped at fatals before and it's not something I would wish on anyone.

Hopefully, you'll be able to find some peace in knowing that you helped the survivors and weren't one of the cold-hearted SOBs who just kept driving.

    Thinking of you.

  2. I appreciate it. Considering what I've seen in life it's rather surprising that this is the first fatality I've witnessed. I saw a plane crash when I was in the service and nobody died in that! Watched a car do a head on into a bridge support and she was just scratched up. Given that these guys hit at probably over 100 MPH in a head on, it may be fortunate that only one person died. I'll be posting more about it for "therapy" as there are some big take away's that I got out of this.
