Country Wisdom Post #13

Living without running water in this modern eara is a lot like camping!  Camping is only fun when you want to do it though...

... ask me how I know this (shakes old western canteen upside down as only dust comes out)...

  1. Water shortage was one of the first preps that I put in place.

Nothing fancy; just 4 -50 gallon containers on the downspouts. Still need to get a couple of filters/purifiers but at least I can boil the water.

We've been out of running water a couple of times at Bunker BS. Those times make me realize how overlooked that simple 'convenience' really is.

Sounds like repairs and improvements are moving along at the ranch. There will be a light at the end of the tunnel -- some day.

  2. I've already figured there's enough work here at the Double P to last several lifetimes so I'll settle for the horizon brightening a little each day! This water situation highlighted THE key issue here and that is getting the water out of the well without power. We got a taste of how easy it is here to go from plenty to zero in seconds. The problem has multiple single points of failure unfortunately. I should do a post series on it. I think I will in fact since part of this blog is about prepping. I'll tell you what came to mind though all this though. One of those military water buffalo trailers. That could come in real handy around these parts and not just for the DP ranch either!

    1. Groundhog,

The water buffalo trailers are very handy. We've used them before in Scouts; seems like there is always one or more dad/grandfather/uncle in the local Guard unit willing to help out on dry camp outs.

That is a great idea; wish I had a convenient place to store one.
